In-Depth Look: Corporate/Educational Director for the BOC Board of Directors

In honor of National Volunteer Month, we are featuring BOC volunteers who serve as BOC board members, committee, task force and work group members and exam item writers. The BOC would like to thank all of our BOC volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the athletic training profession. The BOC welcomes volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Ed ChristmanEd Christman, AT Ret practiced in the collegiate setting for over 15 years. His is the Corporate/Educational Director on the BOC Board, an active NATA member and been a certified Athletic Trainer (AT) for over 40 years.

1. What volunteer opportunities did you participate in at the BOC?

This is my second term as Corporate/Educational Director on the BOC Board.

2. What was your motivation to become a BOC Board member?

I feel it is important to use my experiences as an AT and sports medicine business professional to contribute to the BOC in any way possible. I think my diverse background allows me to be an asset to the BOC Board of Directors as the Corporate/Educational Director. My foundation as an AT and passion for our profession motivates me to volunteer in this capacity and attempt to pay back so much of what was given to me throughout my career.

3. What is the best or most rewarding part about volunteering with the BOC?

I enjoy working with the BOC team and staff! Their professionalism, passion for the profession and upholding the integrity of the credential is phenomenal!

4. What does it mean to be a good, engaged member of a volunteer board?

It provides so much personal satisfaction to work with other professionals towards the same goal of increasing awareness of ATs while promoting the value of the credential. As changes happen within the sports medicine profession, it's gratifying to see how effective this volunteer group is at working in a positive and goal oriented manner.

5. What advice would you give to an AT looking to get involved as a BOC Board Member?

If the opportunity presents itself to join the Board, don't hesitate to accept the challenge! Any AT will find this experience to be the highlight of their career. Not only will it provide so much personal satisfaction, but your knowledge and experiences are invaluable to the BOC and our profession!
