BCS-O Credential – Credential Holders Report Continued Value
Since its launch in October 2021, the BOC has been tracking those who have earned the Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics (BCS-O) credential on an annual basis by collecting their feedback. The continued goal of these surveys is to gather comparative data (and some new information) to evaluate progress or changes in perceptions among credential holders.
The 2024 BCS-O survey responses showed continued value demonstrated for the credential, including:
- Earning the BCS-O supported professional goals for newly credentialed participants by increasing value and/or pay
- Employer support was received for new credential holders obtaining the BCS-O
- Consistent strength in success attributes around the credential
- Future vision of improvements to the profession based on the impact of the BCS-O
- Upward movement of those seeing immediate advancement of their role after earning the BCS-O
- See the value earning the BCS-O conveys to physicians and administrators
Specific survey feedback from respondents captured the following comments:
- “Keep advancing yourself professionally. This is an opportunity to show a higher skill set to your organization.”
- “I bring in revenue for our practice. I also take a load off the doctor by being able to assist in surgeries.”
- “I strongly believe in being a lifetime learner. This certification requires you to continue learning and leave your comfort zone. You will become a better practitioner and a more valuable asset to your organization, no matter what you are doing.”
The next orthopedic specialty exam period will occur in February 2025. Find out more about the BCS-O and eligibility here.
